| Birth | Michael Gilroy was born circa 1825 at Co Leitrim, Ireland. Michael's birth seems to have occurred before any available records. His marriage to Anne Gilchrist took place before 1864 and so no record of his parentage can be got from this. There were no Gilroys in Cloonlaughil in the mid 19th Century, according to Griffith's Valuation but there were Gilcrhrist's in the townland, leading me to conclude that Michael moved into his wife's family home after marriage. Therefore we have no idea of where he came from or who his parents were' It is worth noting his stated age at death in 1916 was 68 which implies a birth year of 1848 but as he married in 1852 this is clearly wrong. |
