Associated Leitrim Parish

The background to this is that research has beenconducted on a (Catholic) Parish by Parish basis, in the following order: Bornacoola (my ‘native’ parish), Aghavas, Annaduff, Cloone, Gortletteragh and Mohill.

So when all ‘founders’ of lines from Bornacoola parish were identified, they and all their descendants, regardless of where born, were marked as having Bornacoola as their associated parish.

Next, the line ‘founders’ from Aghavas were identified. All of their descendants were then marked as associated with Aghavas except for those already associated with Bornacoola. Line ‘founders’ from Annaduff were next identified and all of their descendants were associated with Annaduff except:

• Any associated through their parentage with either Bornacoola or Aghavas associations were associated with Bornacoola
• Any associated through their parentage with Aghavas only were marked as associated with Aghavas.

Similar processes are being followed for lines originating in Cloone, Gortletteragh and Mohill.

Hopefully the table below explains this better. Down the left is the list of Associated Parishes. Across the top are the actual parishes of origins. The various intersections show what a person's Associated Parish will be. For example, a person whose own origins are in Annaduff but who has a Bornacoola ancestor will be associated with Bornacoola, while a person who originated in say the USA and has no Bornacoola or Aghavas ancestors, but has Annaduff ones will be associated with Annaduff, even if he or she has also got Cloone and Gortletteragh ancestors.

Again, it worth noting the associated parish of any parish whose origins are in, say, Bornacoola, will be listed as Bornacoola. But the details on people also show their countries of origin, county of origin (if from Ireland), and Parish of Origin (if from Leitrim).
