Dates of Death
Dates of death are taken almost always from Civil Register records, whether gathered from a transcription on www.rootsireland.ie or directly from online Death registers at www.irishgenealogy.ie. As at Spring 2022, the Death Registers on the latter site cover the years 1871 to 1971.
For the relatively small number of people for whom headstones have been found, a date of death is taken from the headstone if no Civil Register date has been found.
For an even smaller number of people the date of death is taken from a burial record recorded in a parish register, and accessed on either www.rootsireland.ie or else www.registers.nli.ie. See Church Burial Records for more on dates gathered in this collection.
