Names of Spouses

These are usually gathered from marriage records, and where a marriage record cannot be found, then from the birth or baptismal records of the person's children.

If a spouse name has been gathered from, say a Census record, then as this would not give the woman's maiden name, she will be entered as surname 'Unknown'.

In some cases, a indication such as the surname of a first cousin found in a Census record or similar, can lead to the deduction of the woman's maiden name without being able to conclusively prove it.

Bear in mind that, in general, the marriages of people born after 1920 have not been sought, and marriages after 1946 are not on the site www.irishgenealgy.ie and so have been deemed outside the scope of this project.
